I read to escape the monotonous confines that plaque my everyday human condition. I read because, to me, books act as a map that guide me to travel to places I have never been, places that I have always wanted to go, and places I could never get to if not for that book. I read to voyage through portals of time and reality, to meet people I could never know, to see places that never existed. You see, in my opinion, books are not just mere words on paper. That black ink holds the very threshold to another life, another time, and another place. Those words on paper dictate your wildest adventure, they provide the ups and downs of romance without the pain of reality, the suspense of catching a murderer all the while curling up in your bed with hot cocoa and cookies, and much more. Reading is the easiest way to swap lives with anyone you want to. And all these reasons are why I read. I believe that reading transports you and carries you through escapades you yourself would otherwise be too frightened to try. Reading allows me to be anyone I want to be. While I am reading I forget about my troubles and dive into the troubles that exist in the world I am immersed in inside the book. Reading allows me to escape myself.

  1. I loved how you talked about reading as a way to escape yourself and swap lives with someone else.
